I'm trying to do the Matter Meter thing and the last monthly achievement(eat x Candy Corn). I heard all the stories are in the Human areas(3 in Lion's Arch, one/two in Queensdale and I think one/two in Gendarran Fields) but using the thing alone is confusing(can't tell if the ghost does come out). I'm hoping to find more info, especially before the 26th comes around.

There were a few bugs that kept some ghosts from appearing when too many people were around; I had to log out of Site 5 on Monday and spawn the ghost yesterday instead because of that. Patch notes say they've fixed that issue now though, so we'll see about that.

As for the locations, yeah, three in Lion's Arch, One in Queensdale, One in Gendarran Fields and one in Kessex Hills. One tip for seeing if the ghost comes out - assuming it isn't bugged - is a "suspicious location" sparkly marker will appear that you can use to trigger the ghost.

Yeah, I noticed that. At that point, it's a matter of picking which Scan makes him/her appear, which isn't hard since there are 4 scans and you get 4 uses per Candy Corn.

I did the quest with my Ele and Mesmer. It's a particularly quick quest since when someone else triggers the ghost, you can talk to it while it's lingering. The only somewhat annoying bit is the 6th site, since it's in a mini dungeon full of traps and you have to fight a Champion Cave Spider before the trigger for the 6th ghost appears. At least there's a Rich Candy Corn Vein in the end room.

There wasn't a rich vein when I went. I did find one on Tuesday at the start of the Only Zull jumping puzzle though, so that was nice. I haven't really been farming the Halloween stuff much though. There's absolutely no way I'm going to get the 100 of the ultra rare elemental drop materials I need to craft the unique bow, so I don't see much point to farming any of the materials. I also failed to get a skin from my accumulated black lion keys, so I've kind of given up on all of the halloween items. I'll probably just hoard materials and sell them at a premium a few months down the line.

Speaking of chests, the Mad King chest fix they're doing is bullshit. I used all the mystery tonics for costume brawl, and they're the core ingredient for the recipe. =/

Yeah, apparently they updated the locations this quick. I'm not too bothered, though. Assuming they won't remove them by the end of the event, I think I'll hoard the Candy Corns, too, after I get the monthly, which shouldn't be long now. Oh, you need to have eaten 150 Candy Corns to complete the 4th requirement(4 tiers). They're also selling for 20c last I remember, so if you want that monthly(and if you have some silver to blow, but then it's easy to get Candy Corn), go get it.

I tried doing the Costume Brawl, but then I remembered that it took forever to render everything in Lion's Arch, so I gave up on that.

Costume Brawl was okay. Kind of a fun diversion, especially when it happened spontaneously. While doing the new Vexa's Lab jumping puzzle, a costume brawl broke out right before the boss room as people waited for others to finish the jumping section before initiating the boss fight.

My advice for hoarding though? Buy up a bunch of the Rare ingredients. The nougats, mouths and such. Those will run out a lot faster, and go up much more in price in the months after Halloween . . . and you need 50 of them for each Exotic unique skin. They'll be worth a gold at least in three month's time, and they sell for about a couple silver now last I checked.

I highly suggest you do the Monthly Achievement while you still can. Aside from the usual 20 Mystic Coins, 5s and 7.6k EXP, you get 10 Jugs of Liquid Karma. That's 45k free karma right there. And they're affected by karma boosters, so it can reach 67.5k karma.

No way I can get it done. I don't play enough WvW to get the kills necessary in the time I have available, unless the monthly requirements changed this month. Otherwise it'd be easy as pie.

Did some of the new event stuff. The Mad King Labyrinth was kind of fun for a quick diversion, but not an area with enough meat to make me want to stay for extended periods. Inquisition was a similar story, an oddly balanced PvP zombie-style game; I didn't want to hang around too long for it. I haven't tried the Rumble yet, but the Mad King's Clocktower jumping puzzle was easily the highlight. A decently challenging puzzle with a timer function, it's done by groups in waves in order to create a sense of community. Took me a few dozen tries to reach the top, but man was it an exciting experience. Especially when doing it with a group of people whose habits became familiar to me over time.

Oh, and then there's today's addition; the Mad King dungeon in the middle of Lion's Arch. The fight itself was pretty easy, with none of the attacks being particularly dangerous, but the small jumping puzzles as you chase the mad king between levels we kind of fun. It wasn't quite as fun as the jumping puzzle, but it was still enough to get me to go through it a couple times.

Note: Only the jumping puzzle has a substantial reward, in the pair of unique skinned exotic shoes. Even the dungeon has pretty crap rewards, with the best thing confirmed to receive from it being a 26 silver reward for a 5-10 minute dungeon and a unique 10-slot bag that . . . well, is only unique because it's a trick or treat bag. No special qualities I've noticed, but having a couple 8-slots I never swapped out I managed to make use of it.

So that's what happened when the Mad King awakened. A dungeon came up. I'll give it a try later.

And I already got the Mad King Slippers from a chest in Mad King's Labyrinth.

First time doing the Mad King dungeon gets you a free 10 slot bag. And apparently, you can get exotics from the chest.

Yeah, the bag was nice. Didn't nab any exotics in my two tries though. =/

I did finally get around to trying the Mad King Rumble, by the way. Unlike Inquisition, I actually found this one to be a lot of fun. I'd love to see an expanded version of this MOBA-like gameplay become available, although it does need a bit of tweaking to be truly great. Rounds are too short for evenly matched teams, and the team sizes fluctuate too much in its current implementation because people constantly come and go. Overall I had a blast with it though, and hope they release a more polished version in the future.

Finally managed to do the Mad King's Clock Tower. I must have spent around 3 hours doing it, but it was fulfilling to actually beat it. The 2 mini-games weren't so bad. Lunatic Inquisition was OK, though I found it funny that I found playing as the villagers more fun than the Inquisition, though those Mad King Says attacks are really evil. Mad King Rumble was interesting, yeah. It definitely was more fun than Lunatic Inquisition.

Right now, I'm worrying about whether I can get 75 pumpkins carved by October 31(tier 4 achievement). I mean, I'm 2 achievements away from the Emissary of the Mad King title(just need the carved pumpkins and to attend the party), so I thought "Might as well."

Carving 75 pumpkins feels so short when you do it in Overflow servers.

The Mad King Dungeon closes at 9pmam server time. If you still want to run it, you better get it done now.

EDIT: Mad King Dungeon is now closed. The rest will be a party that'll be an event in Lion's Court in Lion's Arch.

Spoiler: click to toggle

Naw, I didn't feel like farming it. Two times was enough for me. At this point, I'm just waiting for the final event today, which hopefully I'll be able to get to some time tonight or tomorrow.

Weird final event. Although I guess a free exotic hat isn't too bad.

It's not even exotic; it's a Town Clothes item. I would have liked it better if it was a transmutable item, but I was in it for the achievement so I'm not too bothered by it.

That is strange. The dungeon would've been a much better finale.

In either case, I doubt I'll check into GW2 in the next few weeks too much. I really like exploring, but waypoint costs and everything else mean I'm usually losing money whenever I'm not in Orr or Frostgorge Sound. It just doesn't feel rewarding to do anything else, even if it might be something I actually find fun. It might be worthwhile to make a new character, but I don't really want to yet. I doubt I'll ever do that Legendary though. Frostgorge sound is kind of fun but I've gotten tired of fighting Claws of Jormag, and I've really done everything I can in that zone. And while I haven't completely swept through Orr, I have gotten tired of it. The enemies and terrain wear thin fast, and you get tired of seeing dead, brown things everywhere after a while. Some of the Orr events are really cool, and the Lyssa temple is probably the best event chain I've seen yet, but I really hate looking at it and fighting the enemies there.

I'll probably try to finally do Arah Story, and maybe hop into Explorable dungeons when I can, but arranging for and playing a series of dungeon runs uninterrupted is a time investment I don't like making very often. I also want to get around to all the jumping puzzles, and maybe even finish exploring all the zones I haven't gotten to yet . . . but the problems listed above have thus far made me less enthused to do that. Even if it's fun, I want it to be rewarding too, or I feel like I wasted my time.

Well, at least it counts as a group event, so you get rewarded with the usual EXP, karma and silver.

And yeah, I feel you there, actually. I think I'm running out of things to do with my Thief and Elementalist. I still have 25% of the world to explore but I find myself pained to do that(and there's a bugged skill point challenge in Metrica Province). I guess I can do stuff like get titles or craft, but really, I'm actually feeling burned out. I have 3 other characters waiting to be maxed out but then I honestly don't feel like leveling them. Probably because it means I'll have to go through the process all over again and it isn't as fun when you're doing it for the 3rd time.

At this point, I'm thinking a break is in order. Although I heard a really big update is coming in November, so maybe we should buckle up for that.

Hmm, interesting. I do have to admit, these monthly events probably will keep me coming back when otherwise I might stop playing.

I grabbed all the latest updates so I could run through the last three months of Living Story content, and see what's being done. I also found out at about the same time that they're doing this for the month of April:

BUMP for impending Heart of Thrones expansion.

Actually, because I'm playing casually again...

Also, because my cat died, and I created him in game:

(yes, Tera has a cuter looking cat race, I know)
